Today's random card is...
I'll be honest, I've only ever used 3 of the 4 modes on Profane Command: fear is an underutilised mechanic, and playing in EDH there are often just one too many artifact creatures on the receiving end for fear to get you all the way through. That and my decks that run Profane Command rarely have enough creatures to attack with.
As for the actual cast-able modes; Target player losing life is fine, especially if you can kill someone off. Reanimation is almost always the main option, and often defines how big the X actually is. Killing a creature is a good shout but most of the time the one you want to kill is just a bit too big so you end up reanimating a creature and killing an annoying 2/2 or 3/3.
As with most X spells there is a sweet spot at which it actually starts being a return on investment. Personally, that's about 6, though I have cast it for about 20 before to kill someone.. and at that point, the profane command was "Fuck off"
